Student Problem #6 Unit J Concept 6 Partial Fraction Decomposition with Repeated Factors


  • What is this problem about?
This problem demonstrates how to solve partial fraction decomposition but this time with repeated factors. As the problem shows (x+1) ^2 is to the second power which means we count up two times because that is the number of the exponent. If it were to be to the third power then it would be repeated three times.
  •  What must the reader pay close attention to in order not to make a mistake?
The reader needs to pay close attention that when a factor is repeated it has to be repeated as many times as the exponent. So, in the problem I did in the picture, I put (x+1) and (x+1) ^2 because the exponent went to the second power. So if there were to be an exponent that was 4 or higher then the factor would be repeated that many times.
